PCG Breaks Ground on New Student Housing Development at Fort Valley State University
MACON, Ga. - Fort Valley State University officially celebrated the start of construction on a new student housing development at the Gano Site, marking the first phase of a long-term campus housing expansion program. Piedmont Construction Group (PCG) is honored to serve as the Design/Build contractor for the project in partnership with Lord Aeck Sargent, following selection by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents through a competitive qualifications-based process.
The initial phase includes construction of a 32-bed, apartment-style residential facility designed to support students pursuing health-related academic programs, including nursing. Funded through the CARES Act, the project is scheduled for completion in 2026, with future phases planned to expand the complex to up to 200 beds as part of Fort Valley State University’s long-term campus development strategy.
Adam Berkstresser, Vice President of Operations for Piedmont Construction Group, addressed the campus community during the ceremony and emphasized PCG’s commitment to FVSU.

University leadership highlighted the project’s role in addressing growing enrollment, enhancing campus life, and strengthening infrastructure across campus. The groundbreaking represents the first step in a multi-phase housing initiative planned to continue through 2026 and beyond.
