Piedmont Construction Participates in Groundbreaking of The Lofts at D.T. Walton
MACON, GA - Community leaders, project partners, and local residents gathered on January 7, 2025, to celebrate the official groundbreaking of The Lofts at D.T. Walton, a transformative mixed-use redevelopment that will bring new residential opportunities and revitalized community space to downtown Macon. Piedmont Construction Group (PCG) is proud to provide Construction Management services for the project and to have participated in the ceremony.
Phase one includes construction of a more than $15 million parking deck that will provide over 350 parking spaces, supporting future residential and mixed-use development on the historic D.T. Walton campus. The parking garage is scheduled for completion by summer 2026. The mixed-use apartment community, known as The Lofts at D.T. Walton, will follow and is anticipated to be completed by spring 2027.
The Lofts at D.T. Walton marks a significant step forward in the redevelopment of the historic D.T. Walton campus. The project will deliver modern residential units and upgraded community amenities designed to enhance neighborhood connectivity, accessibility, and long-term livability while preserving the site’s legacy.
During the ceremony, Adam Berkstresser, Vice President of Operations, addressed community members, highlighting PCG’s commitment to local investment and responsible development.

Piedmont Construction Group is providing Construction Management services for the D.T. Walton project and is working closely with the Urban Development Authority, Gateway/75, LLC, design professionals, and local trade partners to ensure the successful delivery of this landmark project.
Once complete, The Lofts at D.T. Walton will introduce new residential options and supporting infrastructure that will further enhance downtown Macon’s walkability, accessibility, and economic vitality.
